Fred Rayner

Certified Orthotist / Certified Pedorthist

Fred is a Certified Orthotist with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC), and a Certified Pedorthist with the College of Pedorthics of Canada, and has been active in the profession of Prosthetics and Orthotics since 1986.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Orthotics and Prosthetics from George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario. Fred is a Past Professor in both the Postgraduate Clinical Orthotics and Prosthetics Program and the Orthotic/Prosthetic Technicians Program at George Brown College / Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto. Fred’s academic interests include Biomechanics and Advanced Materials Technology and Fabrication and applies these principles in creating braces and fitting braces and orthotics to promote recovery and enhance mobility and performance.  With almost 40 years working in the field, Fred has the knowledge and experience to help you with your mobility. Away from the clinic Fred enjoys coaching youth basketball, Karate and Autocross.

Carla Michelin-Clarke

Certified Orthotist / Registered Technician Orthotics

Carla is a Certified Orthotist and Registered Orthotic Technician with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada and has been active in the profession since 1988. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Guelph and a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Orthotics and Prosthetics and Orthotic Prosthetic Technicians Program at George Brown College in Toronto. Carla was an Instructor in the Orthotic/Prosthetic Technicians Program at GeorgeBrown/Sunnybrook Health Sciences for 20 years. She has extensive experience in both pediatric and adult populations. She works with therapists from Erinaokkids and also Kidsability to help children improve their function and mobility. For the past 15 years her passion for dogs has enabled her to use her  orthotic skills and apply them to Canines and helping with their bracing needs. She specializes in canine knee bracing.

Brad Carpenter

Certified Pedorthist / Certified Pedorthic Technician

With over 20 years of experience as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, Brad brings a deep understanding of lower limb biomechanics and footwear solutions to every patient interaction. Holding a bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics, he combines clinical expertise with a passion for crafting personalized, functional orthotic and footwear solutions that improve mobility and quality of life. Known for his patient-first approach, Brad is dedicated to finding the right fit - literally and figuratively - for each individual he works with.  Outside the clinic, he enjoys skiing, spending time with family,  and coaching his sons baseball teams, where his passion for movement and mentorship extends beyond the clinic.

Mark Tonin

Certified Pedorthic Technician / Registered Technician Orthotics

Mark is a Registered OPC Technician (2008) and a Certified Pedorthic Technician(2009) and has been actively working in the field since 1997. He completed his 2 year Diploma from George Brown College at SCIL in Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital in 1997 where Fred and Carla were his instructors. The working relationship with Fred  began soon after the inception of Applied Biomechanics back when it was just a 2 man show. Marks extensive experience working with materials and vast understanding of the clinical requirements needed to successfully treat patients with the wide range of bracing is a direct result of working so close with Fred over the years. Collaboration, design, R+D and fabrication has all played a crucial role in this ever evolving relationship. We continue to use the valuable experience to create the very best for our patients. Marks spare time is enjoyed staying very active, being outdoors, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Cathy Rayner

CFO and Business Manager

Cathy has been behind the scenes with Applied Biomechanics since its inception.  Cathy is the co-owner and partner with Fred. Her main focus is the continued financial success and day to day management of Applied Biomechanics. Outside the business she enjoys her dogs, horse and gardening.

Cheryl McPail

Reception Manager

Cheryl has been providing Reception Services and Client Support at Applied Biomechanics since October of 2020. In this frontline position, Cheryl prides herself on ensuring that each patient is taken care of in a friendly, efficient and timely manner while providing them with the information they need to have a positive experience from start to finish. Cheryl has worked in office administration roles in the health care, publishing, education and fitness fields over many years. In her free time, Cheryl enjoys travelling to warm destinations, spending time preparing and enjoying meals with family and friends, and staying active with running and strength training.

Kalia Browne

Reception

Kalia has been the Junior Receptionist at Applied Biomechanics since October of 2022 making her the newest member of the team. On the clock, she supports the office by helping prepare the invoices, getting the files in order for the next day and confirming upcoming appointments. Chances are if you get a voicemail reminding you for your appointment tomorrow, it’s probably Kalia! Off the clock, Kalia is a student at Conestoga College working towards an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration - Accounting with hopes for a CPA designation in the future. She enjoys crocheting, baking and playing with her dog, Jasmine.
